Nestle
Jacob Gutierrez, Biological Engineering Student - Specialization in Packaging Engineering
What was involved/what was your role during your internship?
I worked on Innovation/renovation, sustainability, and optimization projects under the bakery sweets and
global brands division as a technical packaging co-op at the largest food and beverage company in the
world! As the packaging lead on many projects I worked cross functionally to develop primary and
secondary packaging solutions while also communicating with and aiding in external suppliers.
What was the best/your favorite part about completing this internship?
I really enjoyed applying what I learned in school to real world packaging problems by developing tangible
solutions. Working with packaging professionals in industry has given me a chance to expand my
knowledge and gain connections. See products go from theory to shelf end-to-end has been very
rewarding.
What are the benefits of an internship?
The co-op has given me a chance to gain industry experience through technical projects by helping me to
understand more deeply the role of a packaging engineer. It has helped me verify my future career goals
while giving me mentors I can ask advice from.
Why would you recommend internships to other students?
Any experience in industry while still in school will help you get your foot in the door and allow you to gain
skills you can use in your future endeavors.
