Bayer Crop Science
Nyssa Gunthorp, Agricultural Operations Management Student
What was involved/what was your role during your internship?
This summer, I had the pleasure of serving as a Bayer Crop Science Sales intern with the Southeast Crop
Protection team. My territory stretched over three states: including Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. My
responsibilities included understanding and assisting the local team in sales of crop protection products
and services, building relationships with customers and retailers to successfully satisfy their needs and
expectations, and completing a marketing project to deepen knowledge that pertains to the demographic
of local dealers. My day-to-day activities involved monitoring corn and cotton herbicide trials, peanut
nematicide/fungicide trials, responding to product inquiries, and meeting with product managers from
distributor companies that were included in my project.
What was the best/your favorite part about completing this internship?
My favorite part about this experience was being able to work with a diverse variety of crops and build
personal relationships with my territory's distributors and producers.
What are the benefits of an internship?
The benefits of a summer internship are that they allow you to explore your career interests, while gaining
applicable field experience. Students are able to network with companies and within the industry itself to
make valuable connections that could help advance their professional skills and career. Not only can they
figure out if they are going down the right path, but they can gain confidence in their field that will help
them transition into a full-time position.
Why would you recommend internships to other students?
Internships allow students to explore their interests and develop relationships with companies that share
their passion. Internships go beyond a summer - they are the foot-in-the-door that helps a student secure a
job later in their professional career.
