Dr. Serap Gorucu

Assistant Professor, Risk Analysis, Safety, and Health of Agricultural Systems

Dr. Serap Gorucu earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Cukurova University, Turkey and a Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering from Clemson University.

The Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing industry is the most hazardous industry in the U.S. resulting in thousands of deaths over the past ten years. Agricultural injury surveillance data can provide key information in prioritizing hazards. Agricultural injury surveillance is a topic of great concern among agricultural safety and health professionals since the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) decided to discontinue their series of periodic agricultural injury surveys in 2015. Dr. Gorucu’s research has been focused on agricultural injury surveillance and injury coding schemes.
