Agricultural and Biological Engineering

Dr. Nasser Najibi

Assistant Professor in Climate Resilience and Extension Specialist

Dr. Najibi works on developing engineering approaches, tools, and datasets at the intersection of hydroclimate extremes, risk assessment, and decision-making in a changing environment. His work bridges hydroclimate science, systems engineering, and geospatial data modeling/applications to enhance climate and ecosystem resilience by characterizing the drivers and impacts of extreme weather events and climate change on infrastructure systems and communities.

Prof. Najibi’s Research Group focuses on understanding multisectoral, deeply uncertain, and dynamic climate risks to improve resilience and adaptation to multi-hazards evolving in a changing environment. For example, from evaluating the risks of extreme weather events (floods, droughts, rainstorms, heatwaves, etc.) to enhancing system resilience and creating robust planning and management strategies that respond to environmental changes and anthropogenic landscape transformations. The ultimate goal is to develop innovative solutions to the pressing challenges posed by multisectoral-multiscale risks, creating more resilient communities and sustainable interconnected systems (built, natural, and human) that can withstand and adapt to the multifaceted impacts of a rapidly changing climate and environment. Before joining the University of Florida, Dr. Najibi was a Research Associate and Postdoctoral Scholar at Cornell University and an ORISE Postdoctoral Fellow sponsored by the USACE Engineer Research and Development Center. He received a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from The City University of New York (City College) in 2019, an M.Sc. in Geodesy and Remote Sensing from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2014, and a B.Sc. in Civil and Surveying Engineering from the University of Tehran in 2011.
