Dr. Ludgate’s background in development informs her research, most of which is applied and focused on food systems, gender equality, and local capacity development. She has significant experience in project design, budgeting, implementation, and training facilitation. She utilizes mixed methodologies, both quantitative and qualitative, to explain complex issues that surround smallholder farmers’ social capital and collective action, role of community-based organizations on women’s leadership potential in patriarchal societies, gender-based violence, and intersectionality. Her current research activities take place in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Iraq (Kurdistan), Nepal, Niger, Rwanda, and Uganda.
