Dr. Gerrit Hoogenboom
Professor and Preeminent Scholar, Crop Modeling, Decision Support Systems, Food Security
Dr. Gerrit Hoogenboom is a Preeminent Scholar in the Global Food Systems Institute and Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida. From 2010 through 2015 he was the Director of AgWeatherNet Program and Professor of Agrometeorology at Washington State University. Prior to 2010, he was a Professor and Coordinator of Research, Extension and Instruction in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at the University of Georgia. He has over 30 years of experience in research, education, and outreach in agricultural and environmental engineering. He has specialized in the development and application of crop simulation models and decision support systems and he currently coordinates the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT; www.dssat.net), one of the most popular crop modeling systems across the world. He frequently facilitates international training workshops on crop modeling and decision support systems. He has published over 555 scientific papers in refereed journals as well as numerous book chapters and proceedings (h-index 105; i10-index 538; Citations 49,764: Google Scholar). Since 2019, he is the Editor-in-Chief for The Journal of Agricultural Science (Cambridge); previously he was an Editor for The Journal of Agricultural Science (Cambridge), Climate Research, Scientia Agricola, and Agricultural Systems. In 2022, he was elected as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
