Dr. Dengjun Wang
Assistant Professor in Contaminant Fate and Transport
Dr. Wang is an assistant professor in contaminant fate and transport at the University of Florida. Dr. Wang’s research spans from conventional contaminants in agricultural systems such as fertilizers (nutrients) and pesticides, to new emerging contaminants such as engineered nanomaterials, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), microplastics, and nanoplastics. Dr. Wang’s research integrates field sampling, laboratory experiments, field demonstration, and mathematical modeling to characterize and predict contaminant transport, transformation, and fate in the environment. Engineered solutions based upon cost-effective and efficient materials (e.g., biochars) are employed to remove contaminants from the broad perspective of environmental remediation and cleanup.
Dr. Wang’s current research focus includes: (1) abiotic/biotic transformation and remediation of PFAS in the environment; (2) nutrient-related water quality issues and mitigation strategies in agriculture; (3) nanotechnology for pesticide removal, sensing, and destruction; and (4) sustainable agriculture using nanofertilizers and nanopesticides.
