Removing Barriers, Building Hives
Accessible Beekeeping
Presented by Justin Sims
Beekeeping requires skill, patience, and precision, but it should never be limited by disability. Featuring accessibility advocate and nonprofit founder Justin Sims, this session will explore how adaptive practices, assistive tools, and emerging technology are making beekeeping more inclusive for individuals with disabilities. As a disabled beekeeper, Justin brings lived experience and innovation together through his work with Accessible Beekeeping and the development of Bee My Hive Inspector, an AI-assisted mobile application designed to support new and visually impaired beekeepers during hive inspections.
This webinar is ideal for agricultural producers, beekeepers, Extension professionals, healthcare providers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, and anyone interested in advancing accessibility in agriculture. Agriculture is strongest when it is adaptable.
