Pang-Wei Liu
PhD Student
Pang-Wei Liu received his B.S. and M.S. in Geomatics from the National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan, and a M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida. He is currently pursuing a PhD degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the Center for Remote Sensing.
Pang-Wei’s master’s research involved feature extraction from SAR images for change detection and evaluation of microwave signal attenuation in forest areas using LiDAR data sets. For his PhD research, Pang-Wei is developing novel approaches to model microwave signatures of dynamic vegetation.
Subit Chakrabarti
PhD Student
Subit Chakrabarti received his B. Tech. in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from Haldia Institute of Technology in West Bengal, India. He is currently pursuing his PhD degree in Electrical and ComputerEngineering at the Center for Remote Sensing.
Subit's PhD research includes applying signal processing techniques for spatial scaling of satellite-based observations for agricultural applications.
Tara Bongiovanni
Engineer
Tara Bongiovanni received her B.S. and M.E. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Florida . Tara's masters research focused on modeling crop growth and development, and on improving modeled estimates of biomass and yield through assimilating remote sensing observations.
Tara is currently working in the Center of Remote Sensing assisting with crop modeling and GIS work for drought forecasting models to be used in South America. Tara also supervises crop vegetation sampling, data collection, sensor monitoring, and data archiving for the Center.
Pat Rush
Engineer
Pat Rush received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Florida. At the Center, he is responsible for maintenance of the microwave radar and radiometer systems. He works closely with the machinist to develop and implement mechanical and control systems for the microwave sensors and helps with other sensor and programming needs.
Alejandro Monsivais-Huertero
Alejandro Monsivais-Huertero received the B.S. degree in telecommunications engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico City, Mexico and the M.S. degree in microwaves and optical telecommunications and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Toulouse, Toulouse, France. He joined the Center for Remote Sensing as a Postdoctoral Research Associate conducting research in developing assimilation algorithms using microwave observations to improve soil moisture estimates by the hydrology models. He is currently a Research Professor at the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico, Mexico City. His research areas of interest are in microwave and millimeter-wave radar remote sensing, electromagnetic wave propagation, and data assimilation algorithms.
Karthik Nagrajan
Dr. Karthik Nagarajan received a B.E. degree in electronics and communication engineering from the University of Madras, Chennai, India and the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Florida. He joined the Center for Remote Sensing in 2009 and conducted research recently in data fusion and assimilation, pattern recognition, information theory, graphical models, and multiscale estimation concepts applied to remote sensing applications. He used high-performance and reconfigurable computing with focus in field-programmable gate array design and development, performance analysis, and productivity studies. He joined Qualcomm in California recently in November 2012.
Daniel Preston
Senior Engineering Technician
Daniel Preston is the Center for Remote Sensing field technician and lab manager. For field work, Daniel is responsible for data logger setup and programming, equipment setup and assisting with sampling, data collection and sensor maintenance and calibration. In the lab, he is the Center's IT administrator for both Linux and Windows systems. Daniel also manages the Center's website.
