CRS INTENSIVE COURSE: REMOTE SENSING AND GIS IN HYDROLOGY
The CRS hosted its annual intensive course titled "Remote Sensing and GIS in Hydrology" for a delegation from Taiwan. This long-standing partnership continues to promote international collaboration, professional development, and knowledge exchange while strengthening connections between the University of Florida and the Ministry of Agriculture in Taiwan.
The program welcomed 13 participants from nine organizations including professionals from Management Offices and Irrigation Agency, Ministry of Agriculture; Chinese Taipei Committee/International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage; Taiwan Research institute on Water Resources and Agriculture; Agricultural Engineering Research Center; and graduate students from the National Taiwan University (NTU). The students were sponsored by a scholarship established by Ms. Wen-Fu Shih, a strong supporter and advocate of the CRS.
The intensive course provided in-depth training through guest lectures, discussions, and hands-on learning experiences focused on the application of remote sensing and geospatial technologies to water resources research and management. The program highlighted both foundational concepts and emerging applications, while fostering meaningful discussions among participants, CRS faculty, and water managers in settings like: the North Florida Research & Education Center- Suwannee Valley in Live Oak, FL, the Plant Science Research and Education Unit in Citra, FL, and the St. Johns River Water Management District in Palatka, FL.
