2011 Awards and Recognitions

Greg KikerGreg Kiker, Associate Professor

Dr. Greg Kiker was the recipient of a UF/IFAS International Achievement Award. He has used his long-term international experience in southern Africa to expand UF research and teaching capacity in Africa and Latin America. In addition, he has recently been awarded a second Fulbright Scholarship to fund research collaboration with South African National Parks and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

 

Chris MartinezChris Martinez, Assistant Professor

Dr. Martinez was the recipient of the John and Martha Woeste Professional Development Award. This award encourages effective young faculty in the Florida Cooperative Extension Service to participate in professional development activities. 

 

Michael DukesMichael Dukes, Professor

Dr. Michael Dukes was awardedf  the 2011 Young Extension Worker Award from the American Society of Agricultral and Biological Engineers (ASABE) for his exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to irrigation and water conservation through research and extension programming. Dr. Dukes was also recently named as the Interim Director for the Center for Landscape Conservation and Ecology.

 

Arthur TeixeiraArthur Teixeira, Professor

Dr. Art Teixeira was selected to receive a 2011 Life Achievement Award from the International Association for Engineering and Food (IAEF) at the ICEF-11 congress in Athens, Greece. He also received the 2011 Florida Section ASABE Distinguished Achievement Award.

 

James JonesJames Jones, Professor

Dr. Jim Jones was selected to receive a 2011 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Outstanding Alumnus award from North Carolina State University.

 

Clyde FraisseClyde Fraisse, Assistant Professor

Dr. Clyde Fraisse was named the 2011 Florida Section ASABE Outstanding Extension Worker.

 

Kati MigliaccioKati Migliaccio, Associate Professor

Dr. Kati Migliaccio was named the 2011 Florida Section ASABE Outstanding Young Researcher.

 

Jim LearyJim Leary, Senior Lecturer

Dr. Jim Leary was named the 2011 Teacher of the Year by the Florida Section ASABE

 

Rafael Munoz-CarpenaRafael Muñoz-Carpena, Professor

Dr. Rafael Munoz-Carpena has been selected to receive a University of Florida Research Foundation (UFRF) Professorship award. These three-year professorships were created by the UFRF to recognize the faculty who have established a distinguished record of research and scholarship that is expected to lead to continuing distinction in their field.  

 

Fernando AristizabalFernando Aristizabal - ABE Undergraduate

Fernando Aristizabal is the recipient of the first place in 2011 AGCO National Student Design Competition.The purpose of the AGCO Student Design Competition, is to encourage undergraduate students to participate in the basic design of an engineering project useful to agriculture and related areas and to provide an arena of professionalism in which the student can experience peer recognition of a well conceived and executed design project.  Fernando received his award for the project: Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation: Carl Baxley’s Seepage Irrigation and Drainage System Design

 

Pack Expo TeamUF Packaging Science Team Wins First Place

Justin Simmons, Kent “Max” Kolegue, Colleen Watson and Natasha Najdovski  left Pack Expo Las Vegas 2011 with first prize in the PMMI U Student Packaging Solutions Contest, sponsored by exhibitor B&R Industrial Automation Corp. The first-place team shares $4,000 in scholarship funds from the PMMI Education & Training Foundation.

 

Kofikuma DzotsiKofikuma Dzotsi, Graduate Student

Kofikuma Dzotz was selected to receive the McNair Bostick Scholarship for 2011 from the Agricultural and Biological Engineerng Department. .

 

Bryant ShannonBryant Shannon, ABE Undergraduate

Bryant Shannon was selected to receive the 2010-2011 J. Wayne Reitz Medal of Excellence from the College of Agricultural and Life Science.

 

Mazin SaberMazin Saber, ABE Graduate Student

Mazin Saber was awarded a 2011 Outstanding International Student Award by the UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The award is designed to recognize students who not only meet exemplary academic achievement, but also a wide range of accomplishments and contributions.

 

Prachee ChaturvediPrachee Chaturvedi, ABE Graduate Student

Prachee Chaturvedi was awarded a 2011 Outstanding International Student Award by the UF College of Engineering. The award is designed to recognize students who not only meet exemplary academic achievement, but also a wide range of accomplishments and contributions.

 

Gabriela CruzGabriela Cruz, PKS Undergraduate

Gabriela Cruz was designated as the Second Place undergraduate
recipient of the 2011 J. Richard Troll Memorial Scholarship.
